Interaction

Dear Lord thank You for all of the great gifts that You have given us and please may this be a good day. May all of our interaction with others throughout the day be enjoyable and may the Holy Spirit be with us and guide us in the things that we say and do. Help us to be open to learn from others and to be ready to share freely from our knowledge in a generous and kind way without demanding our way only. Please may our christian love be dominantly coming through our attitude toward others. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.

Dear Lord please be with us and please may this be a good day, may we be guided by the Holy Spirit and may we make a positive difference in somebodies life today. Competition

Dear Lord please be with us today and may the things that we try to do work out alright and for the best. Please be with the sad people who are suffering loss and grief. Life is competitive all through the Lords world from the smallest of the Lord's creatures all the way into the world of men, women, and children, who must do the best they can to live in the society that they find themselves. Competition seems to make the strong stronger and the weak weaker which seems to be contrary to finding happiness for the weak. Maybe this is not the whole story, maybe the fact that the desire to overcome adversity is made stronger in people who have been beaten down during competition. Maybe these same people will have added sympathy and empathy for the poor and needy people of the world, and maybe this is a part of God's eternal plan for His creation to find His Kingdom. Please Dear Lord guide us and protect us, in Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.

Dear Lord please may this be a good day, may happiness be the theme for this day that You have given us. May the memories that come to mind be happy memories and may the Holy Spirit overpower any pain or suffering and bring happiness to the forefront of the day. Dear Lord please be with us on this day and make calm come over what seems to be confusion ahead and uncertainties on what direction to turn first. Dear Lord please may this be a good day and may we find excitement in the way this day unfolds. Dear Lord please be with us this day and may this be a good day. Please help us not to be overwhelmed and depressed by the never ending negativity of the political talk that we hear as the time of election nears. May we feel your presence and have the assurance that You are still in charge and control and that in the final finish Your powerful love will prevail. Thank goodness that the woes of the world do not depend on the plans of man, but on Your everlasting love and wisdom that comes to the world as Your plan for us all unfolds. Dear Lord please be with us today and please may this be a good day. Please may we be able to feel Your presence with us as we go through the day. Expectations

Dear Lord please be with us this day and please may this be another good day. Please Lord may we not be guided by expectations that could cause us to dodge doing Your will on this day. Expectations that might cause us to prejudge a person that we should listen to or an event that we should attend. Maybe if we can hear the Holy Spirit urging us to offer ourselves some way to some one, we can change lives and take actions that will bring others to Christ by giving them attention. Dear Lord please help us to be free of anxiety on this day and may this be a good day. Help me to understand that Your power is always available to me when I feel this enemy of anxiety trying to mount an attack on my ability to live as I should. Help me to understand that through You all things are possible and that I can do all things through Jesus Christ Who strengthens me. If You are with me who can be against me. Challenges

Dear Lord please be with us this day and may this be a good day of insight and success. May the challenges we face not be allowed to overwhelm us, and may we prevail where we have not been able to in the past. Please allow us to have understandings and confidence as we approach these challenges, and may we be able to sort out what really matters, and what is trivial. Dear Lord please be with us to day and please may this be a good day. Please help us to have the right priorities and values embedded in our mind so the decisions we make will not hinge on egotistical nor selfish motives. Making a Difference

Dear Lord please be with us today, may this be a good day, and may we be able to make a difference in somebodies attitude by some simple God driven act of love that makes a positive influence on them. Please help us to feel and be open to the Holy Spirit's influence on our attitude, as our day goes by, in Jesus Christ name, we pray, amen.

Patient Ego

Dear Lord please be with us today and may this day be one that we can cherish when it is gone past. May we not be in a hurry for our will to be met, but be able to wait for Yours. May our selfish ego not be our driving force even tho we are in our eyes doing as You would want under the circumstances we find ourselves in. Help us to prayerfully wait with patience for you to take control even if it doesn't seem to be happening, and may our ego learn to forgo the seeking of recognition and glory.

To Be Fed

Dear Lord please be with us this day and may this be a good day. Help us to choose the spiritual feeding that comes our way today wisely. Dear Lord may this be a good day, help me to realize how many true blessings I have. Dear Lord Please help us this day to take the time to appreciate the beauty that is all around us. Beauty that we disregard and take for granted, because of our senses being spoiled. Help us to hear the wonderful sounds of nature, insects, birds, even thunder at times, or the pitter pat of rain. Help us to see the textures of leaf, limb, turf, and stone. The symmetry of plants and butterflies, the colors of skies, clouds, waters, sunsets, and sunrises, all to behold as free gifts from the creator. The list goes on, but how stupid we are to pursue the things that vanity dictates, and not these wonderful things that are in front of us every day. Forgive us Lord, In Christ name we pray, amen.

Dear Lord please be with us today, and please may this be a good day. Dear Lord please may this be a good day today, and may we make good choices in the things that we do and say. Help us not to rush by times that we should be noticing your creation whether it be other people or wonderful acts of nature. Be Prepared

Dear Lord thank You for this day, please may it be a good one. Yesterday I was enlightened on how days should be handled as they evolve. I felt so much in charge and ready to set the world on fire with my productivity, the weather was perfect, the birds were singing, and nothing seemed to be negative. Then a little bitty wasp stung me right on the end of my finger, terrible crippling pain put a stop to every thing, that finger is still numb and swollen this morning. This was a very minor set back, and only a small inconvenience, but I thought a good example of how and why we have to be prepared for the unexpected in life and know that we are not in charge. Dear Lord please be with us every day to help us cope with and handle the unexpected, and to understand that You are ultimately in charge. In Christ name we pray amen.

Touched

Dear Lord please be with us today, guide us and protect us and may this be a good day. Please may we be touched by the Holy Spirit with the positive thinking as it is found in the teachings of Jesus as we remember that we can do all things through Jesus Christ Who strengthens us, and if God be for us who can be against us! Adventure

It has come to me that a good way to approach life is one day at a time, or one adventure at a time. Life is an adventure for sure, or is it a whole series of adventures depending on what our situation is. My father was a cab driver for thirty years, and I tried it for a short time for additional income when I was a young breadwinner for a young family. You never knew who your next fare would be nor where the experience would take you, so talk about many adventures in a day of work, this was a good example. No matter what your circumstance is you should be able to have adventures, even the home bound should be able to travel by book or electronics in this day. If you are too busy trying to make a living, maybe trying to tease your brain with enough imagination to stop and smell the roses as you labor would be good for your mental health. If on the other hand you are bored with an uninteresting life with not enough challenges, either way, seeking the Kingdom of God will be a wonderful adventure for you, and your life will take on new meaning. Find your place in God's world, He has a need for you to fill. Dear Lord please be with us today, amen.

Understanding

Dear Lord please be with us today and may this be a good day, and may the things that we try to do work out alright and for the best. Please help us to have understanding and empathy for other people, especially those who we don't agree with, as we see and hear of their thoughts and actions. Help us consider the teachings of Christ as he forgave even those who crucified Him, and taught forgiveness with the Lords Prayer, prodigal son, and the woman caught in adultery, as this same theme was always there throughout. To have understanding, empathy, and forgiveness seem to all emanate from love, the love of God through Christ, truly a gift of the Holy Spirit. Please help us to spread this love among others through our speech and actions, in Christ name we pray, amen.

Accomplishments

Dear Lord please be with us today, help us to have the right attitude as we approach each task to be done. At the end of the day may we be able to look back at the path that we have taken this day and see positive accomplishments and order in the things we have touched. Help us to have the patience necessary to wait when we should and go forward when we should. As the days pass may we gain wisdom and insight in how You would have us handle problems and make decisions which may make differences in the future that cannot be seen from our perspective on this day.

Dysfunctional

Dear Lord please be with us this day and may the things that we try to do work out alright and for the best. Help us to have a loving attitude and find ways to make life smoother, gentler, and more orderly for who ever we deal with. I recently discovered an allegory for life while on our sailboat with two of our grandsons. The wind was a little strong, the boys ten and twelve were full of energy and questions, so getting all of the preparatory done, life jackets, engine running, lines untied, safely away from docks, foresail properly lashed down to bow pulpit, and mainsail raised, all done with the help of eager inexperience, was a little hectic for this not too patient a grandpa. Then with grandma's help, noisy engine is turned off, tiller puts bow at proper point of sail, kids and lines stowed properly. Order is restored and peaceful smooth sailing is realized.

I believe that a dysfunctional chaotic life can be brought to a point of order with the help of prayer, positive scripture, and searching for God's will and desire for our life.

Opportunities

Dear Lord, please be with us today, thank You for all of the great gifts that You have given us, and please forgive our sins. Help us to look on the challenges that we face today as opportunities to have adventures with You in Your world, and to recognize Your guidance as You make it available to us. Help us to use the opportunities to further Your Kingdom and do Your work even if only to lighten someones load ever so slightly in Your Name. Stay with us all, guide us and protect us, in Christ Name we pray amen.

The Kingdom is Closer

Dear Lord thank you for all of the great gifts that you have given us. Some days it is hard to see the good in the world if the news of the world is all presented as being negative, but every day wonderful children are being born, silver haired saints are graduating from the toils of this life to be with You, while still acts of kindness both small and large are being performed in Your name in every corner of this world. Please help us to understand that Your Kingdom"s coming is on Your schedule which is beyond our ability to comprehend. May the things that we try to do work out alright and for the best. Veterans

Dear Lord please be with our veterans today and at all times, especially with those with broken bodies and minds. Be with the men and women who have served their country only to be forgotten and left to go wanting as homeless and mentally wandering people of scorn only because they can't find their place in society. Please be with the families that have been hurt by these and other misfortunes of war. Help the world to grow wise enough to outlaw war and learn to settle problems without causing bigger problems of pain and suffering. Please on this Memorial Day let us honor the veterans, but not glorify war. Grieving People

Dear Lord please be with the grieving today, give them support with the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and bless them with your presence. Perhaps they have a loss that has made them more aware of what or who are the things that really matter to them. Help the rest of us to come to this understanding with out having to suffer a loss to wake us up. May we count our blessings and give thanks for the gifts of family and friends, opportunities to go to You in prayer and opportunities to serve You by helping others. Enlightenment

Dear Lord please be with us today and may this be a good day. Help us to interact with others as You would want. May we set good examples and say things in conversations that will lead to positive thought, love, patience, and empathy toward others. May enlightenment and better understanding of directions that You want us to take be made more evident by the things that we do and say. Please may our thoughts and actions find your favor today. Being Right

Being right can sometimes be a very narrow platform on which to stand. It can be so important to us that we fail to consider all of the circumstances that have brought us to this place in the scheme of things. When Jesus interrupted the people who were going to stone the woman caught in the act of adultery, they were right according to the "Law" but the compassion of Jesus the "Peacemaker" overruled with the never to be forgotten statement "Let the one without sin cast the first stone". Long term relationships depend on this kind of love. We need to be willing to forgive the inadequacy's of others, not always carry a ruler of perfection for measurement.

Dwell on Now

Dear Lord please be with us today and may the things that we try to do work out alright and for the best. Help us not to dwell on how things of the past might have been different if we had made different choices. Help us to think about now and what we can do to help ourselves and be productive in thought and action. Things in the past are done and over, and our future depends on now. Please help us to approach our "Now" with the right virtues controlling us. May we have the right priorities, values, attitudes, patience, understanding, wisdom, and compassion, be unselfish and humble and have empathy for others. Dear Lord please be with each of us this day, and give us our daily bread. please guide us as we associate with our fellow men and women. Help us to be kind and considerate of the feelings of others. Pondering Direction

If after graduation or at any point in our journey through life, we find ourselves pondering direction, there are some sure flags being held up in the Holy Scriptures.

Mt 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Mt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

Mt 6:19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Mt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Lu 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Choosing a career and direction in life can certainly be paralleled to building our house, and what type of foundation we choose. A very serious problem that could haunt us for a long time could come from setting our priorities toward material over spiritual wealth. A person can be trapped in a life of toil and drudgery working like a slave to pay for the pride of having things. Chasing satisfaction on a gauge based on ownership can end in deep debt, disappointment, and heartache. If on the other hand we pursue a career or vocational direction based on a passion to toil at something we love to do and believe in, then the meaning of our existence will be pleasing to us.

Lu 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Dear Lord please be with us and may the things that we try to do work out for the best. Please forgive our sins, thank you for all the great gifts you've given us, guide us and forgive us, in Christ name we pray amen.

Graduation Time

Spring is traditionally the time for graduation in our culture it seems, but I suppose it can be compared to a lot of life changing journey endings and beginnings during our life. I have even read of death being considered the day of Graduation from a life of hard work to a rewarding indescribable venture with our Lord. As I view from my vantage point all of the activities involved in the graduation of one of my grand children, I reckoned it to a large train station where many travelers are ending journeys while others are preparing to journey on. It is a time of relief after a tiring trip, or an exciting time of adjustment to a new set of priorities, where values will be tested along with abilities to persevere along a path that some day with hindsight may be seen as obviously a path predestined by our Lord to take us into the possibilities of God's Kingdom. Not a path stumbled on by accident, but directed to by the the Holy Spirit after many prayers of hope for the future of man and woman kind. Gods direction towards righteous love for all of creation will prevail! Please Dear Lord may this be a good day today, thank you for all of Your great gifts and please stay with us all, guide us and protect us. In Christ name we pray, amen.

Control or Be Controled

One quote that I remember from a class on stress management was to control our emotions instead of letting them control us.

The book of James seems to cover this challenge in life as well as others with a few frank words. I often turn to this book to try to better understand how God would have me to approach everyday life. I don't claim to be able to live up to the standards laid out in this Book, but I find them to be a practical and all around easy to understand guide for the person who is trying to grow in understanding and seeking the Kingdom of God.

Some days it might be wise for us to be careful how we approach others about subjects that we are passionate about. We may turn them off and never be able to present our view in a manner that can be considered to have come from the teachings of Jesus. I know that I pray to have a right attitude and patience, but often I give my opinion with no other options for the person to whom I speak. Not setting a very good example or presenting my perspective in a good light, whether it has merit or not.

The book of James says it so well, from the New International Version of the Holy Bible, James 1:19-20 "My dear brothers, take note of this:, Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires."

So direct and to the point, this wisdom and much more is there for us to harvest from this book.

This Day

Please may this be a good day today Lord. Thank you for all the great gifts that you have given us. Please Dear Lord help us to be part of the solution to problems that we may see today, rather than adding to the problem. Help us to have the right values and priorities and to see the way that you would have us to act or not act. In Christ name we pray amen.

Furnace of Affliction

Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction

Ver. 10. I have refined thee; or, I will refine thee. Although I will not cut thee off, or utterly destroy thee, as I now said; yet I will put thee into the furnace, not to consume thee, but to purify thee from that dross which cleaveth to thee, and needs such afflictions to purge it away. This so described my bout with depression and my feeling of being cleansed of guilt by the Holy Spirit. Speaking of perseverance and adversity, Please may this be a good day today O Lord, In Christ name we pray, amen.

Rules

One rule at our house, though not always followed, is to never go shopping for groceries when feeling hungry, too many impulse purchases will be made, and the final total at the cash register will be considerably higher. After a recent pity party that I attended, put on by my own feelings of doom during a memory lapse of Who is in charge of my daily bread this and every day, I discovered a new rule. Never make plans for the future on a gloomy day, Jesus has already told us to live one day at a time anyway because there will be enough to worry about this day with out compounding things by bringing in tomorrow. Perseverance to overcome adversity, this can be on a small daily scale as the Lord, our Good Shepherd directs us through life and strengthens our abilities to handle what comes. We can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens us to the point of victory over death. This world has been turning for a long time and will continue on as The Creator directs. The clouds of falling rain can be seen as wonderful blessings of future harvests and great bounty, terrible floods and life changing defeats, or as inconvenient puddle makers. Which ever we choose, the day will end, birds will sing and greet another sun rise, this is the day the Lord has made. Thank you Lord for all your great gifts, please may this be a good day today, in Christ name we pray Amen!

How are we seen

How are we seen by others, should we care? I have always resented being judged by my peers, according to their observations and their standards. Jesus said we should be known by our love,(Joh 13), in the book of Psalms it refers to people who are not respected at the city gates,{Ps 69), probably the pulse monitor of the city. Maybe we should judge ourselves and our relationship with God by how we would look at ourselves from the perspective of others. The store clerk, the waitress, the other driver or pedestrian. Please Dear Lord be with us today, thank you for all your great gifts, may this be a good day today. In Christ Name We pray! Amen

Dear Lord Please

Dear Lord please be with us today, give us strength when we are weak, foresight and wisdom when we need it, and the backbone to speak out for the good of all. In Christ name we pray, amen!

Puzzle Pieces

On reading one of my morning devotionals, " Upper Room," I was led to begin thinking of my Christian understanding as if it were a big jigsaw puzzle.

I think that this is one of the most interesting analogies and easiest ways to present Christ's philosophy. Maybe I will be able to understand better myself how to witness of my own life with God as my Guide. It will be like every time I am led to a better understanding of what the Holy Scriptures are saying to me, will be like finding a new piece to the puzzle of seeking God's Kingdom, and the excitement of putting yet another part of my own personal relationship with God and Christ and the Holy Spirit on a stronger footing, and yet locking another piece of the mystery into place.

Abraham was, according to the Old Testament as I understand it, the beginning of God's relationship with who was to become the Jewish peoples, and the lineage to Jesus Christ. They were given values to live by, and if these values were followed they led to prosperity and happiness for all concerned. They were not complicated values to understand, common sense was all that was needed to comprehend them. The people seemed to have built-in flaws in their mental make-up that made it difficult for them to live inside of the boundaries set up by these values. These people were primitive in their life style as far as we can tell, but maybe not too different from some tribes living in the near east today, and not too differant from peoples of the world today so far as the temptations that they had to face. They lived a hard life as Bedouins, dressing in coarsely made garments made from material as gathered from their own environment or traded for, and cooking and preparing meals as best they could with the inconvenience of moving from pasture land to pasture land as they followed their herds of animals. They lived in portable shelters and carried every thing that they owned by hand or on beasts of burden. Later on they lived under the domination of the Egyptians and probably were trained in many skills through many generations of slavery.

Cultures that now have great control over the way people live today have roots going back to this period of time.

During a discussion the other day someone remarked how a thread of some thought or virtue ran through the scriptures as you looked at them on the whole. It came to me as a puzzle piece, just this morning, that there are many threads running through the scriptures, thus making a fabric with which we can clothe ourselves.

I think that cultures are changing generation by generation, we were traveling through Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday period and since I grew up during the forties and fifties, I was amazed at the change of attitude during just my lifetime.

Being more optimistic than some, I think that I can see a pattern of man becoming a more compassionate animal as history can witness to. When the Kingdom of God grows as the leavening causes bread to rise and become a large loaf, or as a tiny seed can become a large tree, it happens according to God's timing which may be hard for us to find the rhythm to. When cultures no longer measure a person by a prejudgment( prejudice) based on skin color, or any other diversity from the dominant popular version of the day, God's Kingdom will be closer to a reality.

I saw a similarity in a person from a distance the other day that reminded me of a man that I used to work with. As I thought about this man I remembered how unhappy he seemed to be. He was constantly at odds with things either going on at home or at work. To me it seemed like he had “Demons” from the past always at his throat no matter which way he turned. His reputation in our workplace was of one to be avoided, he carried a flashing caution light over his head in everybody's mind. The more I thought of this man and his demons from his past the more I realized that all people have their demons, but most people can keep them from dominating their personality quite so much. I think that these demons may be working for God as He shapes his creation. I think that every selfish act or cruel gesture that we perform without seeking forgiveness from the Lord or the person offended will give birth to one of these demons who in turn will haunt us during vulnerable times of thought. These demons are named “Guilt”, and perhaps are tools that God uses to keep his flock from destruction.

It does seem that while “ Good “ is sought by many, the route may be seen from different perspectives, also the use of balancing forces and lines of thought may be the method God uses to let mankind build his road through history. What little I know of the major religions of the world, I have the idea that they all have a theme of compassion. My search for the Kingdom may have discovered another piece of the puzzle. .

Science has always been fascinating to me, when I was in elementary school I would always get excited and give my full attention to the teacher when we got out our science books. I was also actively attending weekday bible school from my elementary school every Wednesday afternoon. I am now seventy years plus and I still actively search scripture and get excited about scientific programs that I can see on television. The more wonderful the world and universe become as their mysteries are discovered the stronger my belief becomes in my creator.

To me the scriptures found in the Holy Bible are a source of the history of my connection with my Lord and the ever lasting wisdom that has been passed down through the eons of time. They are a source of poetic wisdom and truth, a divine guide to prosperity and peace of mind. While there is knowledge also woven into the scriptures, knowledge is a constantly changing commodity as it is revealed to man by the creator.

A favorite quote from Madeline L'Engle is “Truth is eternal, knowledge is changeable. It is disastrous to confuse them.”.

I worry that as education becomes more wide spread in the world, that the Christian Faith will be kept from spreading because rather than the Truth that Jesus came to reveal, the legendary myths will be embraced by the fundamentalist movement, and they will insist that these literal teachings are required beliefs to be a Christian. There is a large value in these mythological biblical stories, just as there is value in the parables that Jesus used to teach with, but they are there for instruction not historical fact.
